I spent over $10,000 on new equipment in the last three months and waited to use any of it until I received the ASIAir Plus, mainly due to its easy learning curve. I received the Plus about three weeks ago but have only had three days of clear skies, and was only able to photograph two of those days. On both days (evenings) after setting up all the equipment and having everything ready my mount (iOptron CEM70) lost connection to the Plus. Not only once but several times. On the first night, after troubleshooting, several mount disconnects and not wanting to miss the night's photo session I switched to a reliable program (software) via USB and was able to capture good data. On the second night, two days ago, I set up my equipment (using the ASIAir Plus) and was able to get half way through the Polar Alignment before the first mount disconnect. As always, I was unable to reconnect the mount by disconnecting the mount's USB, or by turning the mount off then on. I was only able to reconnect the mount by turning off the Plus and turning it back on. Resetting through the app never resolved the issue, I had to turn the Plus Off, then switch the power back on, then turn on the mount's power (I also tried turning the mount on first) but even that didn't always work, so I'd have to reboot the Plus again till it did work and the mount connected. After two hours of this rebooting $%*& I disconnected everything from the Plus and went to something that worked, USB connections. After a couple hours of having my door open for the USB cable (temps were 19-degrees) I reconnected everything back to the Plus and the mount didn't drop, so I set up the system to run, which it did.
That next morning (yesterday, 12/20/2021) I went into the feedback area of the ASIAir Plus and submitted my log file. As of yet, I've still not heard back from anyone.
About two weeks ago I was having problems with the tracking, seems the Plus would send my scope wherever it wanted and somehow that had resolved itself. Not sure how, I did nothing different.
So, here I am, lucky if I have one night a week to photograph, but unfortunately I can't count on even that because my $10,000s worth of equipment is dependent on a $300 piece of equipment that is unreliable.
My suggestion: It would be impolite for me to publicly say what you can do with this piece of hardware, so...
Since I am seeing multiple cases of this same issue being reported, and having troubleshot this myself and concluding the problem lies in the ASIAir Plus, I would:
1: Suggest replacing the Plus for users having, and reporting this issue, and oh yeah, starting with me (I'm such a selfish Bast% Lol).
2: Change the name from the ASIAir Plus to the ASIAir Minus.
