johnc Hi, thanks for the responses. I am not sure what putting the iPad in airplane mode would do for me, as I wouldn't even be able to connect to the ASIAir then.
You are correct. iOS Airplane Mode would disable all wireless transmissions. It will definitely not work if you need to connect to the ASIAIR WiFi hotspot.
When I connect to the ASIAir Wi-Fi network and open the app, up in the top right corner it says "no 5G network" whereas the iPad mini (with the bad battery) shows the network name of the ASIAir.
That is interesting.
Try this: temporarily connect the ASIAIR to your home network with am Ethernet cable and turn it on. Using Ethernet is the most reliable way to connect an ASIAIR to other devices. After waiting 2 to 3 minutes, launch the ASIAIR app on the iPad that gave you problems. Connect the iPad to the home network.
See if you can run the ASIAIR app now.
If you can, go to the ASIAIR Setup window that has the WiFi icon. If the WiFi HotSpot is set to use 5 GHz band, switch it to use the 2.4 GHz band. Next, give the ASIAIR's hotspot a different name (it comes default with ASIAIR_xxxxxxxx where the x's is part of the ARM chip's serial number -- which ZWO uses as serial number of the ASIAIR). You might want to note down the original name in case you want to revert back, but it is a good thing to use a custom name to easily identify your ASIAIR when you are at a remote site with more ASIAIR, in any case. I have four ASIAIR (two v1 and two Pro) and it is the only way I can distinguish between them.
Next, do a soft shutdown (tap red icon in the same ASIAIR window, and confirm shutdown required).
(You can also do the above by editing a Config file on the ASIAIR's microSD card.)
After doing that, quit the ASIAIR app completely. For iPad with home button, double tap the button, and then swipe the ASIAIR app off the screen; with a FaceID iPad, swipe up from bottom edge of the bezel and then swipe the app off the iPad screen -- this will cause ASIAIR to start from scratch the next time you launch it).
Reboot the ASIAIR (power off, wait a few seconds and power on again.
Change your iPad WiFI settinhs to the ASIAIR's hotspot (it should now have your custom name), and see if it now works.
It is even better to connect the ASIAIR to a LAN adapter on the iPad, but very few people have an Lightning/USB-C LAN adapter for their iPad -- you might consider that route if you go to a remote site and you are willing to tether your iPad to the ASIAIR with a cable instead of doing it wirelessly. The WiFi range of an ASIAIR Pro is abysmal -- you will be lucky to get more than a meter or two on the 5 GHz band, depending on the orientation of the ASIAIR Pro relative to your iPad.
Good luck,
Chen
