Daylight saving time

Post by astrosatch » Fri Apr 19, 2019 8:42 am

Greetings!
There is one issue about which I'm surprised nobody mentioned it before.
I live in Europe and in our country we still use daylight saving time. So when time changed there is sync problem with asiair and goto is wrong. Even platesolve doesn't work correctly. I use EQ mod.

How can I solve this?

I have not noticed this issue when using my ASIair when daylight saving time is active and my plate-solving has worked without issue.

How are you controlling your ASIair? Do you use a tablet or phone? What type? Have you verified the time accuracy on that device?

If the time is wrong, I'd check the accuracy of the time on your phone or tablet.

A Raspberry Pi does not have a true real-time-clock (RTC) module that keeps the time when powered off. There is an optional module called the DS3231 that does this for the Raspberry Pi ... basically a tiny module that plugs into the corner of the GPIO interface (that 40-pin interface) and the module has a small watch battery to keep the time even when powered off. But this requires a couple of configuration changes and modification to the boot behavior to fetch the time. ZWO doesn't use it (and should not need it). They should be fetching the time from your phone or tablet.
I use an iPad to run the ASIair app. The iPad fetches it's time from the mobile carrier.

When I go into (on my iOS device ... this would be different if you use an Android device) "Settings" -> "General" -> "Date & Time" my device is configured to set the clock automatically. If you have set your clock manually, this could be throwing off the ASIair's time.
