AVX not Tracking

Just got ASIAIR to use with ASI 174mm mini, SkySafari Pro 6 on iPad, Celestron AVX and Stellarvue SV70ED. Sky Safari connects to mount via AiAiR and does Goto's but will not track. I turned Tracking to ON in ASIAIR but still AVX is not tracking. Images even at .5 sec show streak stars as result. Need help to solve this. Thank You, John G.

Problem solved. The issue was a setting in SkySafari, turned off Time and Location in SkySafari and now tracking works fine as well as plate solving and sync mount. Now I can focus on using and enjoying ASIAIR!

I have the same problem with a Celestron CGX mount.
I could turn off the time in SkySafari, but I can not find how to turn off the location.
Could you tell me how it is done?

Sorry for such a late reply, I have not been on this forum for quite awhile due to excess number of spam postings. . In SkySafari 6 Pro go to Settings, then under TELESCOPE select Setup, these are the critical settings:

ScopeType: Celestron AVX/CGE/CGEM/CGX
Mount Type: Equatorial Goto
Auto-Detect SkyFi: OFF
IP Address 10.0.0.1
Port Number: 4030
SET Time & Location; OFF

Hope this helps!

I know this post is over a year old but I'm having the same problem with the latest software/firmware. Goto's are great, plate solving works and centers my target but the AVX will not track. 0.5 sec exp in guiding screen shows star trails.

Sky Safari + Telescope setup shows:
Scope Type--Celestron AVX/CGE/CGEM/CGX
Mount Type-- Equatorial Go To (German)
Connect via WiFi-- Auto-Detect SkyFi is UNchecked
Set Time & Location-- is UNchecked

ASIAir Pro with App/Firmware 1.4.3 (5.0.5) latest versions
Tracking is ON
Speed is Sidereal
Both main & guide camera set for 714mm Focal len (using ZWO off axis guider)

AVX firmware:
GEM: 5.21.9200 latest version
HC: 7.15.8270 latest version
Tracking Mode is EQ North (I live in US)
Tracking Rate is Sidereal

I performed an initial alignment on the AVX then an All Star Polar Alignment (ASPA) on the AVX as well, I can't see Polaris so ASPA is it.
Then I powered off my AVX so the alignments wont conflict with the ASIAir/Skysafari apps.

When I powered up the AVX, I used 'Last Alignment' so nothing moves on the mount and nothing gets updated.

I powered up the ASIAir and connected SkySafari

GoTos from SkySafari and the ASIAir app work fine.
Plate Solving shows I'm on target.

But guiding & tracking doesn't work.

Someone suggested resetting my AVX to factory defaults. Guess I'll try that next.

If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks,
Dave

You might be able to discover what is wrong by doing an exposure and plate solve (noting down the RA and DEC), and then wait 4 minutes (wall clock time) to take another exposure, and do a second plate solve.

Do not turn on autoguiding.

If tracking is running properly at sidereal rate, the two plate solutions should give the same RA and DEC. If tracking has not moved at all, then RA should have changed by 1 degree (the sky moves at the rate of 15 degrees per hour). If you see a 1 degree change in RA, then for some reason, tracking is never turned on.

DEC should not change. If DEC changes, your star trails are caused by poor polar alignment.

If the numbers don't look right, repeat the above after disconnecting the mount from the ASIAIR, i.e., let the mount run by itself (turn tracking on sidereal rate from the hand controller).

If the numbers, with the mount disconnected from the ASIAIR, still don't look right, then the problem is not the ASIAIR interface, but the mount itself. If things are normal without the ASIAIR, the the problem is the ASIAIR interface to your mount (sending wrong tracking rate, for example).

In all cases, make sure nothing is connected to the ST-4 port of your mount. The ST-4 port should always be disconnected with mounts that work are supported natively by ASIAIR. You can try changing the guide rate from 0.5x to 0.9x as a sanity check -- with nothing connected, the errors should not change with guiding turned off.

Good luck,
Chen

Chen,

Thank you! Very good troubleshooting steps.

Hi Chen,

I've followed the troubleshooting steps and ran the test 5 times.

The numbers were very close, Both RA & Dec were off by only 1/100th of a degree.

However, the object moves significantly when guiding is enabled. How do I troubleshoot guiding?

Thank you,
Dave
