Asiair Pro

Post by astrosatch » Sun Nov 17, 2019 2:28 pm

Hi!
There is much discusion about upcoming Asiair Pro these days and I have few questions to ask.

What is 5G Wifi range in new unit? In non pro version sometimes looses connection and distance is not much long.

Are new features that would be in pro also on standard version?

Would faster cpu and more ram improve guiding and other functions?

And last but definately not least:
What about owners of standard version who wants to upgrade to Pro version? Is there any option to exchange for discount or something to ease additional cost? If this pro version appears to be better option I would definately like to buy it.

Br,
Andrej

Hello Andrej,
#1 Since the case is in metal, it will be a bit shorter but don't worry, we have considered that effects, there is another solution for the WiFi connection performance.
#2 Yes, kinda new features such as LiveStack will be only worked in the PRO version.
#3 Yes, the PRO version is based on the PI 4 4Gb version. So faster and more powerful.
#4 Yeap, there will be a discount for the previous version users.
More details will be public this Friday.
Have a nice day.

Rapsberry pi 4 is a surprising choice for ASIAIR Pro.

Thermal problems will be very hard to manage and the extra power benefit comparing to raspberry pi 3 will not be significant, considering raspberry pi 4 cannot work properly with heavy CPU load.

I can predict a lot of issues with asiair pro.

Good luck.

For sure you must working hard with thermal problem of RPi 4.

But without active cooling, Rpi 4 will have throttle problems with heavy cpu load. You should consider to find other SBC to avoid many problems.

Hi.
From video astronomy forum
Pretty interested in getting the asiair for some time and been holding off to see if you would be adding live stacking,, seen your reply to an earlier post saying live stacking on the pro version,, this sounds very promising for fellow video astronomer's,, can you share any more information on this.
