Firmware check on multiple ZWO Cameras (294 and 385)

Post by wcblack7 » Tue Nov 06, 2018 3:04 pm

Hi All,
I am wondering if there is anyway to check that I have the latest firmware version on my cameras.
I found some links to a FWTool.zip, but they no longer seem to be active.

Thanks!
Bill

Thanks Bernd!
I can see that I have v3.0 on the ASI385 and v5.0 on ASI294.
Does anyone know how to determine if those are the latest versions or if they can be updated?

Thanks again!

Usually we don't release new version of fireware frequently, unless to fix an issue.

Does the FW Tool work for all cameras? I want to check for my 178 Mono Cooled but when I go to the download for the FW tool it says:

"Windows (Only support ASI120MC/MM, ASI034MC)"

Are all cameras supported???

Thanks..

Hi Jay,
Do not worry, it is avaliable to check all of our cameras.
But usually, we do not want our customer to check the version except there is a problem with the camera.
When you meet a problem, you should ask us for help at first. If there is a new firmware that could solve your problem, we will help you do that. Becasue, usually, the new firmware is developed to fix the differences in electronic components. As you know, in actual production, it is difficult to ensure that the exact same components are used for several years.
Thanks

Chad,

So basically you're saying if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :-) I can use the tool though to at least check what level I'm at to see if it's current, correct? Do you publish release notes as to what is fixed or improved upon with the firmware updates? I mostly thinking of this not so much to fix an issue, but it appears from some of what I've read that function has been improved and/or added to some cameras.

Can you let me know the current version for the 178 Mono Cooled and if there were any improvements made? Thanks!!

Hi Jay,
Usually, becasue we do not release the firmware, so the release note is not necessary.
In addition, based on our experience over the years, most of the time, our firmware does not add new features after the first release. All functions will be included at the beginning. We'll use our SDK and ASCOM driver to decide if they're used. For the bugs, also do not worry, usually, our firmware could support all of the normal use, they will be tested before they trigger the problem. So firmware update only could solved some abnormal problem, so if you meet, tell us, we check, fix it, and update.
By the way, like we said before, the firmware update is used to compatible with the different of electronic components. So update without our help may cause the problem.
For your 178, there is no need to check it. We did not update it for 2 years :D .
Here, like 178, we had 2 versions, 178 Cool With ST4 port, 178 Cool with USB2.0 port. For most of our customers, it is hard for them to find out the right version.
For your camera, it is hard for me to tell you the current version before I get your hardware information and version. I have several versions.
Thanks
