New ZWO ACI178MC Issues

Postby b.bill.p » Fri Feb 09, 2018 9:07 pm

When I view an image, Sirius, The IMAGE in the ZWO is not centered as it is in the Explore Scientific 18/82 eye piece, the ZWO image SharpCap is very high and to the left. If I rotate the ZWO body the image will circle around center from the same distance (like a poorly aligned polar scope). My opinion is the Sensor is not centered in the body of the ZWO. This is a new purchase, should I return it for another or is there an adjustment ?

The second issue is that large translucent circle appear in LONG exposures and if the body of the ZWO is rotated so do these circles so the problem is in the image sensor.

Lastly there seems to be fuzz in the fish eye lens that becomes noticeable while adjusting the gain during setup.

On the plus side setting up the drivers in Windows 7 was easy and when the ZWO worked almost instantly on a Raspberry Pi-3 running AllSky I was super thrilled .

Please Advise , the ZWO was purchased from a major Southern California dealer. Bill P.

you have to adjust the sensor precisely if you wish to use 178 as an all sky camera
this is because the all sky lens require the sensor in the exactly cente

It is out of center using the 80 mm apeture telescope, Please send details to align the senser, if it is not possible then I should return the ZWO to the store. Thank you .....

I don't think you can tell the sensor is not center from one 80mm scope
I think this is because of tolerance between T adapter and your focuser
you know usually the tolerance is around 0.2-0.5mm which is around 100-200 pixels of 178

anyway, if you wish to adjust the position of the camera, here is the way:
1.unscrew the camera cover by hand
2. lose the 4 screws which fix the sensor PCB board
3. move the sensor board to the direction you want and tighten the screws
