Post by McEwen51 » Fri Dec 27, 2019 6:05 pm

Does the ASI071 MC Pro require Bias frames.

For cameras with CMOS sensors, it is best to capture dark frames that are matched to the light frames (same gain, offset AND exposure time). In this case you will not need to scale the MasterDark (that means: the MasterDark will not be calibrated with the MasterBias).

However, the flat frames have to be calibrated, either with a MasterBias or with a MasterFlatDark.

So the short answer is: if you capture flat darks (and prepare a MasterFlatDark), you don't need a MasterBias at all. (The effort for preparing a MasterFlatDark is essentially the same as for preparing a MasterBias.)

I have produced a set of bias and darks at the same camera settings; the bias at one second each and the darks of 7min each. The ADU of these is about 280 on AA6 and Nebulosity. When I averaged 15 bias frames in Pixinsight it produced a single frame with an ADU of 8000k. It reads a single bias frame at 8000 as well. Both for a 14k camera. Any idea as to what is up?? thanks

You could test in our ASIStudio software. Then please send a screenshot of your test result to us. Thanks!

How does that software help with this issue.? Looks like video software? I have not downloaded it .

You could try to set the shortest exposure time when you take bias frames.
And here is the troduction of ASIStudio: (https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/ne ... ng-us.html)
