M51 'The Question Mark Galaxy'

The daft name was the one N.I.N.A's object browser put into the Sequence name, I had searched for M51, as ya do... I thoroughly recommend N.I.N.A. as a capture app. I am using Version 1.8 RC006. 22 x 250s Gain 120 Offset 4 Temp -15c, 10x5.8s Flats, 10 Dark Flats, 10 Darks, 0 Bias Telescope aperture ...

Re: Background artifact issue

Hi Sean, I have resolved the issue with the background artifacts. I used SharpCap Pro to do a Sensor Analysis and then used the Smart Histogram tool to suggest an exposure for my sky conditions which are Bortle 4, 21.45 so quite nice. The exposure recommended was 255s at gain 120 with an Offset of 4...

Re: Background artifact issue

Thanks for the reply. Could this problem be related to the IMX294-CJK sensors Quad Bayer Coding HDR function? How can I be sure that the CMOS chip was not activating this feature and was only doing the straight pixel binning? It could explain the colour blotches if HDR processing was being carried o...

Re: Background artifact issue

Hi, I have been following this thread and have the same issue with my ASI294MC Pro. Is there any progress? I have been experimenting with exposure length, cooling set point (did a test at zero degrees C last night, ambient 3C so no cooling stress), flats light source. I have been able to only get a ...

Re: ASI294MC Pro cooling performance and also the offset val

Thanks for the reply Sam. I am sure the product webpage said -40c when I looked before, now it clearly says -35C  I use ASCOM driver and APT hence my question why the differnet Offset value in ASICAP and the ASCOM Driver for unity gain. I set the ASCOM driver to an Offset of 8 and all is fine...

ASI294MC Pro cooling performance and also the offset value

I've had my ASI294MC Pro for since last December and have a question about cooling. I am using a 5 amp power brick to power the cooler and with an ambient temperature of 16.2c (measured with a TemperHum USB unit in one of the camera's USB2 ports). The camera will not cool to -20c, it stops at around...
