My son has an ASI178MC ($298) and I have an ASI071MC Pro ($1280). Last night we imaged NGC 2359 Thor's Helmet and neither did well but the 178 kicked the 071's tail. What is up. I use the 071 on a redcat and he uses the 178 on a skywatcher Evostar72. Yes I know the field of views are not the same but his $750 setup (not counting mount) with the 178 clearly showed color and structure in a single 300 second frame. Our $2100 setup (not counting mount) using the 071 and 420 second subs shows no color or structure even after processing. We were looking at the same sky at the same time. Both were set to 50% gain, no filters and working through identical ASIAIR Pluses.
Any idea what could be up?
