Hi all,
While my main lunar/planetary setup consists of a remotely operated 183MM pro at the prime focus of a 14" SCT with the necessary filters and digital focuser (all non ASI), I started to test what will be my "summer" setup located at a better seeing condition location:
10" LX200 Classic with Meade Zero Image Shift Electronic Micro-Focuser
ASI462MC
EFWmini with L, IR, CH4 filters
ASIAirPro
No PC to control the equipment, just an Android phone.
The two moon images attached were obtained before sunset with an IR850 pass filter, at f/10, under average seeing.
Imaging was very easy, good frame rate of about 15fps (1080p in video mode), and results were good for the 1st attempt, but they could be better if:
a) the grabbed AVIs were of higher bit depth than those currently provided by Asiair video mode.
b) Asiair would allow control of the Meade microfocuser (an integral part of Ascom and Indi drivers for the LX200 mount).
c) proper (custom) filter names could be assigned in the app, and later on be included in the file name (fixed filter names are currently appended to file name).
So...
very good results can be obtained in Asiair Pro video mode, but they could still be better if one considers the Asi camera high quality...
even with stable wifi connection and very comfortable control in the living room I still need a long 25m umbilical cord to control focus throughout the session... (EAF is not a valid option to focus SCT through direct mirror motion; I will not invest in a crayford style plus EAF when I already have a crayford type Meade focuser).
Still happy anyway, aware that improvement can happen, and hopefully that it may occur...
Thanks
António
