Good morning - here's my setup (see below).
Finding erroneous values associated with Lat/Long in ASIair when selecting Celestron AVX as the Telescope Setting.
ASIair 1.3, firmware 3.37
Celestron AVX (USB to mini connection) with GPS (successfully acquiring lat/long/time from the unit)
Handcontroller is up-to-date with GEM 5.31.9200 with MC 7.15.8270
Using ZWO 1600MC or 071MC (Main imaging) & 120MM (guide) cameras
ZWO EAF & EFW installed and connected
Connecting via 5G (through a Netgear Extender), and can connect directly to ASIair too
iPad Pro with up-to-date iOS
SkySafari Pro 6
Have not had any good weather to fully test (e.g., plate solve, guide and image) using the ASIair with this setup but have been able to "align the mount/scope" to test the setup and connections.
After connecting to the ASIair, I can easily see the cameras, EFW and EAF device information.
However, when selecting the Telescope Setting (e.g., selecting Celestron AVX/CGE/CGEM/CGX mount) with Serial (USB-RS232) and Baud rate of 9600, and the on/off button is set to ON (and the GoTo Auto-Center & Tracking are turned off), there's no displayed Mount information.
When I select (turn On) the Telescope, can see the little spinning icon, icon then stops & disappears, but nothing appears or is displayed (Mount information) on the Telescope Setting screen.
I was able to fix this issue by exiting the application (e.g., display the missing Mount information), closing the application on the iPad (double click home, then flick the application off the open application screen to close the application). I then restart the application, and the Telescope Setting screen is now populated (displaying) with the Mount Information. After closing the application as described above, able to slew and control the scope on the main application screen .
However, last night, while testing the setup, unexpectedly found the Mount information was populated with the incorrect Longitude information (showed E 266 11 03 when the correct value is 93 48 45) and the Lat information was correct. Checked the Hand Controller information and the Lat/Long was shown to be correct (Menu>View Time-Site). RA & DEC information is correctly displayed, including the correct time.
The Phone Info also shows the correct Lat/Long information, but the Sync To Mount (green button) doesn't work. When I press this button (Sync to Mount), I get a small icon that shows Sync Failure, then disappears. Phone Info and Mount location (Lat/Long) are the same values (when the values are shown in the Telescope Setting screen). Have been unable to fix the Sync Failure issue with any application restart - is this a known bug or issue - very nice feature since I often observe from different locations?
After reading a variety of blogs and forums, changed the Telescope Setting to SkyWatcher Syncan and was able to acquire the correct Lat/Long information from the Mount, including RA/DEC and time information. Tried a different Telescope Setting - used Celestron Nexstar GPS/SLT/SE - get the similar correct Mount Info except there's no Lat/Long information displayed - all values are shown with 00 00' 00". Again, with each of these different selected Telescopes, the RA/DEC and time were all correct (except the lat/long errors described above).
This morning, shutdown (powered off) all equipment, and restarted iPad, ASIair and Mount while using the Hibernate function on the mount. Set the mount to Home/Park, turned on GPS unit, performed a one-star alignment (using Capella) and was able to connect ASIair and iPad to Mount. Decided also to manually "input" the Lat/Long, Time and Location information into the Handcontroller.
Is there a requirement to perform a different type of alignment (e.g. 3 star alignment) and also do a Polar Alignment to have the Mount information correctly displayed?
Again, after selecting the AVX Telescope Setting (no information displayed), and had to close and restart the application, and found the Lat/Long information to be correctly populated and displayed - baffling situation.
Not sure if the issue is the GPS not populating the Handcontroller (but this information was confirmed and correct as described above), or if the ASIair is not correctly reading the Longitude information from the Mount (provided via the GPS). I've been using the GPS unit for some time with no similar issues and successful align the mount with using GPS, polar alignment and 1-3 star alignment.
Have screen shots from the iPad with all of the issues - I can share these if needed to debug this erroneous information.
Excited to find a clear night to see if all of the ZWO devices, mount and ASIair work together. The Netgear Extender works wonderfully and connects up to 100' away. Remarkable suite of hardware and software that has made my new hobby much easier (or at least it appears to be a better solution).
Have also been successful in bridging the iPad, ASIair and SkySafari Pro 6. I use the IP address (10.0.0.1) and Port Number (4030), and have the Scope Type set to AVX and Mount Type on Equatorial GoTo (German). Just tested - the SkySafari slewed successfully & accurately to the location of my last alignment star (Capella). SkySafari is showing the correct lat/long values, including the RA/DEC information and time. Just tested the GoTo feature of SkySafari - selected Menkalinan (nearby star to Capella) - and the scope slewed to this location perfectly. Clearly, the plate solving will be the feature that will be exciting to use in centering objects.
Have developed a "checklist" for setting up my equipment - will share this checklist with the forum users. There are a lot of moving parts that need to work (play) nicely, and if we can get this all working, the ZWO solution will be an excellent solution compared to other software applications running on my laptop.
