Dual imaging with three ZWO cameras

Post by BillM » Sat Dec 29, 2018 4:50 pm

I have a ASI183MM Pro as an imaging camera, guided with a ZWO120. I am considering purchasing another ZWO camera (maybe the ASI174MM). Will the ZWO Ascom driver support this arrangement?

Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill,
Do you mean you want to use 3 cameras together with the ASCOM?
For the current, we only support 2 cameas work together with ASCOM.
Thanks

Hi Chad.
OK. Sorry to hear that. Looks like you will be missing out on a sale to QHY.
Are there any plans to upgrade the driver?
I use MaxinDL for imaging. If I run two instances of maximdl where each calls on the Ascom driver, will that work.? Or will the first call on the driver lock out the second call?
Thanks.

Hi Bill,
I am not sure if the MaxIm DL support runing the 2 case at the same time.
I tried on my PC, it could not run twice on my side.
But for the ASCOM driver of our camera, It is not a good idea. Only have 1 camera, but there are 2 software want to control it. All of us knows that it is not a good idea.
For the current, it is not a easy work for us to update the driver to support the third cameras. First, this kind of needs is very rare. Second, it is also hard for us to test. For the current, we did not find a software support 3 ASCOM cameras.
So I recommend using native driver for the third camera.
For the qhy, if it could meet your needs, I think missing a sale is not a big thing.
Thanks

Hi Chad,
Thanks for the reply.
I do prefer ZWO over QHY so I will try running the native driver for the guide camera. How do I do that as I’ve never used native drivers before?
My 183mm pro is with you for repair but when it comes back I’ll borrow my friend’s ZWO and see if I can connect it via Ascom on a second instance of maximdl.
Thanks
Bill

If you are using MaxIM DL, I think there is no way to use the native driver. They do not support it.
I am not sure about other applications, but as SharpCap, they are here:
Thanks
