Mechanical shutter please !!

Post by rpineau » Sat May 09, 2020 9:01 pm

I like the new cameras, specially the ASI 6200MM, but without a shutter, taking darks, bias frames, ... is a pain specially if I want to use it at a remote site.
Do you have any plan on making one with a shutter ? (and put in in the same enclosure as the ASI1600 TG).
Or add a trigger port fort an external shutter ? (I have a few 45mm shutter recovered from broken FLI cameras).

Without a shutter I will have to look for a different brand.

Thanks,
Rodolphe

Sorry we currently don't have this plan, you could make an electric lens cover by yourself.

I could... but Electronic Lens cover are not a supported device in TheSkyX Pro ... whereas shutters on camera are fully supported and are the de-facto way of doing dark and bias.
Also an Electronic Lens cover is one more moving part hanging off the front of the telescope (so requires space to move and might break more easily that the integrated shutter on a camera)...
So I guess I'll have to look at a different camera brand.

How about using a "light blocker" in filter wheel when shooting dark or bias frame.

8-slot filter wheel should have a spare slot for this purpose. I am not doing remote imaging so I don't have this experience, so not sure if this solution works for you.

Some customers use dark filter to do darks, I think it should be a filter that does not let light pass through.

A filter is not as efficient as a proper shutter. there might be light leak,
So, as said in my original post, as you don't see the interest of a mechanical shutter I bought a camera from another vendor that has a proper mechanical shutter (same price range as the 6200MM but with a KAF-16200 and mechanical shutter, probably one of the last few one as OnSemi is stoping CCD manufacturing).

Thank you for your support.:) Will consider this if there is a big demand.
