- Highest Dynamic Range
- Unity Gain
- Lowest Read Noise
How can I set the camera to the Gain of 100 per the ZWO documentation at the link below?
I am using ASICamera Setup V 220.127.116.11.
I am having similar issue with the ASI 2600MC Pro.
i) When I use Sequence Generator Pro I need to use the ZWO ASCOM drivers. This only allows you to set a maximum gain of 100 .
ii) When I use SharpCap Pro it allows me to set the gain up to 700 (see in red circle).
iii) When I look at ZWO website, it seems to suggest maximum gain is 450.
What I want to make sure is that I am getting a gain of 100 in Sequence Generator Pro so that I am sure I am getting maximum dynamic range. I think the native drive in the SharpCap is working correctly and if I set the gain to 100 in that software the ASI 2600MC is set correctly to 100. I am not sure that the ZWO ASCOM driver is working correctly, because the maximum you can set in the ASCOM driver is 100? Who can I be sure that I can get a gain of 100 in Sequence Generator Pro using the ASCOM driver?
We haven't test it in Sequence Generator Pro, we suggest you to use our ASIStudio software.
I have the very same question. Thank you for the good explanation but ZWO, your response is incomplete. Please tell us if the 100 value on the ASCOM driver is equivalent to the 100 unity gain value. Thank you
PS. I dont understand why the whole range is NOT available... seems weird.
1) Gain setting 0: this allows to use the full well capacity completely and expose longer and with lower risk of saturating stars respectively.
2) Gain setting 100: this allows to take advantage of low readout noise. At still higher gain, the readout noise will not decrease significantly any more, but the dynamic range drops considerably. Therefore these higher gain settings are not reasonable at all.
